Absolute Beginners’ Computers

These days, the ability to use a computer is an essential skill needed for much study and work. But for people who have been homeless or isolated from society, this may not be something they have had the opportunity to learn.

ABC, or Absolute Beginners’ Computers, is a six-week introductory workshop aimed at giving these people the skills they need. It is designed for homeless or vulnerable people who have little or no computer experience and who would not feel confident attending a mainstream course.

The workshop helps people to overcome their fear of, and become competent using, basic computer technology. It  develops people's self-confidence and independent living skills and will make further training and work opportunities more accessible.

The course covers:

  • basic computer set up and operation
  • mouse and keyboard use
  • file management
  • word processing
  • desktop publishing
  • online form filling
  • internet navigation
  • email
