Response to strategy consultation, ‘Move-on Alternatives Project Proposals and Action Plan’ run by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as part of the Supporting People programme, October 2005
Thames Reach supports the development of a more strategic approach to move-on accommodation, led by local authorities. This would improve access for single homeless people and help to share responsibility equitably between local authorities and housing providers.
A significant number of residents who are ‘ready to move on’ from temporary accommodation such as hostels are people with medium needs. This should not act as a barrier to them managing in self-contained accommodation, as most local authorities are now commissioning more services to help people within their own rented flats.
