Homelessness charity Thames Reach is calling on the public to help terminally ill former rough sleeper Derrick Riddell get the urgent medical treatment he needs to spend the last few weeks of his life with his family back in his native Jamaica.

Derrick, who is struggling with terminal cancer and renal failure, urgently needs to find £4,000 to pay for dialysis without which he will die in a matter of days. Thames Reach has paid for Derrick’s flight home and some vital dialysis treatment; but we urgently need to raise another £4,000 that will secure some extra time for him.

Tony Waters, who manages Thames Reach’s Graham House hostel where Derrick has lived for three years said: “We literally want to buy him some time with his family. We have already pledged £2,000. That will buy him a month and we hope to fund him for a couple more months. Without the dialysis, renal failure will kill him within a few days.”
