Super-fit Business in the Community Programme Manager Darren Coulby completed the Reading half-marathon in aid of Thames Reach this month.

Darren, who has volunteered with Thames Reach’s London Street Rescue service for nearly five years, raised a fantastic £1,011 in aid of the Hilary Stent awards, an annual award for homeless and ex-homeless people who are trying to take big steps forward in their lives. The awards were created in honour of Hilary Stent, a former employee of Thames Reach who died suddenly in 1999.

Having completed nine half-marathons over the last 18 months, Darren decided on this occasion he would try and raise some money for charity.

Darren said: “The decision to run for Thames Reach was an easy one. To me, the Hilary Stent awards represent hope, aspiration and a determination to succeed. The awards help those who have experienced homelessness to make really positive changes in their lives.

"I completed the 13.1 miles in one hour and 50 minutes, and although not quite a personal best I was happy with the time.

More importantly I've managed to raise £1,011 for Thames Reach, which is a fantastic achievement.

Many thanks for your generosity; this money will now go towards helping homeless people rebuild their lives."
