Store manager Ash Hussain raised £147 at the event which took place on a Saturday afternoon outside the Convenience Store in Henrique Street, less than 100 yards away from the organisation’s head office in Backchurch Lane.

He now plans to hold more charity barbecues following the success of his first event. He said: “This charity event really brought the community together. Those who attended got a chance to meet their neighbours, eat some good food, and all in the knowledge that it was for a good cause.”

Liz Duff, Thames Reach Bondway’s fundraiser, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in local events that help bring the community closer together and support our work.”
