An award that gives homeless and ex-homeless people the financial support to take a big step forward in their lives will be presented in July.
Each applicant for the Hilary Stent Big Step award must submit an original idea that will improve their lives, stating the amount of money they would like to receive and where it will be spent.
Last year there were nine winners, with amounts of between £100 and £550 going towards such things as:
- The tools needed to restart a decorating business
- A digital camera and computer equipment to create and sell greeting cards
- A course of study for a professional antiques qualification
- An electric typewriter for a potential author
- The materials and training to become a football coach
Although these items may seem small, they can have a huge effect on the lives of the recipients. You can help support people taking big steps by donating to Thames Reach.
The Big Step award was created in 2001 in memory of Hilary Stent, who worked for Thames Reach (later Thames Reach Bondway) for ten years before her untimely death in 1999.
Mediaedge:cia has kindly volunteered to host the awards ceremony, which will be held on 11 July.
The company will also display work from Thames Reach Bondway's Vision Impossible art project in their London office in the lead-up to the event.
