A fundraising campaign has been launched at Thames Reach to help formerly homeless people get back into work.

It ties in with some recent research which indicated that 79 per cent of the people who used the charity’s services wanted to work, but that currently only seven per cent were in employment.

Emma Rembalski, a fundraising development officer spoke about how people and companies could help.

The Moving In Moving On (MIMO) decorating project trains homeless people in painting and decorating skills.

“This helps trainees gain new practical skills and develop their self-confidence. Once adept at what they learn on the course, they move on to further training and work. It’s not so much changing rooms as changing lives.

“When the trainees leave they would all ideally be presented with their own tool kits packed with everything they need to make a career in painting and decorating. Each kit costs £115 and we need 30 tool kits in total.”

If you can help to fund our learning and employment projects, please send a cheque made out to Thames Reach at its Gem House offices at 122-126 Backchurch Lane, London E1 1ND.

Alternatively you can make a donation online or contact Emma Rembalski by email or phone 020 7702 5654 to find out more.
