A corporate supporter raised nearly £4000 for Thames Reach by organising two charity sports events this summer.

Mediaedge:cia (MEC) held its Tennis Open in late July featuring staff from some of the highest profile media companies in the UK.

Twenty mixed doubles teams took part in the tennis tournament and demand for a place was so high that the media owners had to bid to be included.

Amongst those taking part were staff from Newsweek, The Economist, Fortune, CNET, TIME, Forbes, The Financial Times, Adlink, Vibrant and Eurosport.

Elsewhere, MEC took on a team of media owners in a twenty20 style cricket game at a sports ground in Chiswick. The narrow victory by the media owners was accompanied by an auction raising over £1100.

MEC’s Mu Ali said: “We hope to do this again next year on an even larger scale.”

Thames Reach pledged the money towards its farm project which requires a further £20,000 in order to secure its survival.

The project gives homeless people the chance to escape London for the day and work on an organic farm deep in the Sussex countryside. For more details on how to pledge money to the farm, speak to our fundraiser Martyn Robson on 0207 702 5669.
