Support Worker - Lambeth Offender Service

Permanent contract, 37.5 hours a week

In response to the Government’s Rough Sleeping Programme, Thames Reach, supported by Lambeth Council, are developing a new service to prevent homelessness and provide early intervention to people within the criminal justice system.

A team of staff will work flexibly to identify people at immediate risk of street homelessness to prevent the loss of existing accommodation options, and where necessary identify suitable alternative housing options, including emergency accommodation.

We envisage that the team will focus on a number of core activities:

-              Court outreach in magistrates’ courts.

-              Landlord mediation and tenancy rescue.

-              Short-term practical support to enable service users to move into or successfully return to accommodation.

-            Custody in-reach – working with identified prisoners.

The Support Worker will assist an effective team approach by working with the line manager and peer mentors/volunteers, to:

•             deliver brief support and outcomes, ensuring accurate and timely recording of interventions and achievement of targets.

•             work across the Borough, and into different settings and collaboratively with key agencies.

You will have an understanding of the issues related to homelessness, and the impact of involvement in the criminal justice system. You need to be proactive and imaginative in your approach to working with service users and identifying and sourcing accommodation solutions. There will be a degree of autonomy in this role, and as such, it is important that the successful candidates can assess the effectiveness of their work and interventions, and can feedback progress to their line manager.
